"Dear Julie
Your book about Homer Helicopter is exciting because it describes how thrilling it is to control a little plane.
(helicopter).
Young people need to learn that there is so much more to flying than getting from here to there.
I will be honored to have my name used with 'Helicopter Homer.'
Happy Flying

Local author Julie Buscher has written a delightful children's book that will please children and adults alike.

Children ages 5 to 10 will delight in this tale of Homer the Helicopter as he emerges from the factory--shiny and eager for adventure. His mother the wise golden-colored Elsa realizes he is brave from the start and eager to "be on his own."

Homer finds himself flying tourists in the Grand Canyon a place where he can practice his best flying. It is in the canyon where he meets Baldazar the eagle who becomes his friend. They spend hours flying challenging maneuvers and Homer's penchant for taking risks brings him trouble more than once. Homer eventually becomes a medevac copter using his skills to help Nurse Jenny save lives in and near the canyon. Homer receives awards for his heroics and skill.

After many adventures he decides a change is in order and convinces Baldazar to join him in flying north to Alaska which will surely be next in the adventures of Homer and his faithful friend. Colorful illustrations by C. M. Rogers bring a warm persona to Homer and his friends.

Elsa enrolls Homer in the Whirly Bird Aviation School where he meets Hank and learns to fly safely and with accuracy.Homer the Helicopter will be an enjoyable read-aloud book and has been recommended as an aid in helping young children expand their vocabulary and their understanding of the English language. I also would recommend it as an excellent example of descriptive language for young writers. Classroom teachers will find it a good resource for "lifting sentences" to show examples of entertaining and descriptive writing.

Children will enjoy having Homer on their bookshelves and parents will appreciate its contribution to the child's language development.

Homer the Helicopter: Grand Canyon Adventures by Julie W. Buscher is a delightful story that embraces love friendship and adventure. You will find this book a thrill to read again and again complete with brightly
colored illustrations to keep your young reader’s eyes on the page.
Like other helicopters Homer is “born” in the helicopter factory; however he is very different from the start. While most young helicopters are timid Homer
was born ready for fun and exploration. Elsa his mother has great expectations for him with his restlessness and spirit of adventure.
When Homer is ready Elsa enrolls him in the Whirly Bird Aviation School. Before leaving she introduces him to his instructor Hank and they become
fast friends. Under the close instruction of Hank Homer learns the different operations of his control stick. They spend many hours practicing his flying lessons and exploring the Grand Canyon. Homer is an excellent student and swiftly earns his wings and the right to be a Grand Canyon tour guide. Homer
and Hank have wonderful explorations and meet many friends.

After an unexpected turn of events Homer meets Jennie. Jennie wants to train Homer how to be an Air Ambulance Medical ‘copter. Jennie wastes no time in
preparing Homer giving him a shiny new coat of paint and an additional blade for speed and stability; now he is ready for flight! As a team Jennie and Homer
save many lives.
Homer the Helicopter is a delightful way to teach lessons about caring listening to parents and teachers and playing carefully. Parents will enjoy reading Homer
aloud to their children and appreciate the reinforcement of good morals through wholesome entertainment.
Homer the Helicopter is Julie’s first book and was partly inspired by an inflight encounter between her aviator husband Charlie and an eagle seeking to challenge his airplane’s maneuvers. In 1993 Julie found herself laid up for nine months with a broken ankle which allowed for some creative imaginings;
Homer was born!
